Summary of Obi-Wan Kenobi Episodes 1 and 2: You Missed Easter Eggs

creators of Obi-Wan Kenobi You did a great job crafting the file A fast-paced, engaging, and above all, character-driven adventureSo, let’s dive into a (spoiler-y) summary of the deep dives of Episodes 1 and 2, including character arcs and Easter eggs (and this Star Wars drama).

Ewan McGregor plays the Jedi General, no longer the gritty young man of the earlier films but not the gray-haired old man played by Alec Guinness in the original 1977 film. With links to both prequels and the original trilogy, the show is rich in both Star Wars continuity and intriguing new elements. .

The first two of the series’ six episodes are available now, with more to follow every Wednesday from June 1 through June 22. If you haven’t watched the show yet, beware that the first episode begins with scenes of kids being attacked, which can be annoying to viewers in the aftermath. Texas school shooting.

When did we last see “Obi-Wan Kenobi”?

The series begins with a summary of the competitions, which saves you six hours of your life (I’m kidding, They are not that bad). Obi-Wan Kenobi, master of the Jedi and enemy of the evil Galactic Empire, begins his preliminary competitions as an apprentice to Liam Neeson’s ill-fated Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn, who discovers a very young Anakin Skywalker in the realm of the Tatooine Desert. After Qui-Gon’s death, Kenobi attempts to train Anakin, but cannot prevent his troubled young stepson from falling under the influence of the evil Emperor Palpatine. In the end, Anakin succumbs to the Dark Side, especially after the death of his love, Padmé Amidala.

The last time they met was on higher ground, where Obi-Wan cut Anakin’s legs and let him melt into a volcano. Anakin’s last words to Obi-Wan were “I hate you!” Obi-Wan replied sadly, “I was my brother Anakin. I loved you.”

These moments, these deaths, still haunt Obi-Wan in his nightmares. But Episode 2 climaxes deeply in the personal relationship. We know that Anakan is rebuilt as the black-helmed and asthmatic Darth Vader, more so than human. But Obi-Wan had no idea! Which dramatically increases the risks of his mission to protect Anakin’s twins: young Leia, who was adopted by Hungarian Senator Bale Organa on Aldran, and young Luke, who is sent to live with Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru in Tatooine.

Ten years later, I started the miniseries…

What was Obi-Wan intending to do?

Lounging in the desert watching Locke in the first place. We meet 10 years after Revenge of the Sith and nine years before A New Hope, in an era after the entire Jedi Order has been wiped out. Obi-Wan hides, calling himself “Ben” and leading a humble life as a meatpacker in the corpse of a giant desert creature. He even rejects the desperate pleas of Jedi, young Nare (actor, writer, and director Benny Safdie) who is desperate.

Although Luke is still young, he is already showing signs of anxiety that prompted him to embark on a new adventure in the first movie. When he plays a pilot, he sends chills down his spine as Obi-Wan watches echoes of Anakin’s young pod race in The Phantom Menace. We know that it portends Luke’s coming of age later as a pilot who destroyed the Death Star.

Speaking of alarm, Uncle Owen and Aunt Bero raised Luke, and she played as in Prequels Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Pace. In A New Hope, it’s fair to say that things are heating up for the unfortunate couple, adding poignantly to Owen’s plea for Obi-Wan to leave the boy alone. Edgerton is an award-winning Australian actor, writer and director known for The Animal Kingdom, The Gift, Loving, and The Great Gatsby.

Help me, Obi-Wan

But the show pulls something off the hangman when it turns out that it’s not Luke who’s being threatened. Echoing the beginning of a new hope, Obi-Wan receives a 3D message that begs him to help Princess Leia. This time it’s his old friend Bail Organa, also played by Jimmy Smith in his reprise of his prequels, and his wife Breha.

Enchanted by Vivian Lyra Blair, young Leia is a feisty girl who is more interested in escaping into the woods to the place of the spaceship with robot Lola than in her royal duties. Her relationship with Obi-Wan reminds us of the tough guy/cute kid dynamic The Mandalorian, but most importantly, we’ve become Leon’s strongest: professional sentiment. It can’t be coincidence, that Natalie Portman starred in Luc Besson’s 1994 movie just a few years before she played Padmé Amidala (Luke and Leia’s mother, and Anakin’s great love) in Star Wars prequels.

Who are the investigators?

A key step in Palpatine’s scheme to found his evil empire was to eliminate the ideal Jedi Knights, who might oppose him. The series begins with Order 66, at the moment when several of tomorrow’s Jedi are killed by Palpatine’s cloned soldiers in Revenge of the Sith. But enough survived for the Emperor to form a death squad of Jedi hunters: the Inquisitors.

Dark side detectives were previously seen in the CGI animated series Rebels and the video game Jedi: Fallen Order. Their fortress from the game will be featured in the show as well, as seen in the trailer. Among the characters we’ve seen before, Robert Friend brings the Moon-Faced Grand Inquisitor to life, while Sung Kang plays the Fifth Brother.

Uncle Owen and Sister Reva confront him.

Moses Ingram plays Riva, a detective created for the Obi-Wan series. Her relationship with the Grand Inquisitor reflects the Jedi teaching style of appointing a Padawan apprentice to a Jedi Master. Like Anakin and many young adults, Riva is ambitious and impatient. She is also an underdog, whose powers of strength are useful to imperial officers who nevertheless will not let her forget her humble origins. Ingram brings character to life attractively, and yes, in case you couldn’t figure it out, I find myself cheering it up a bit. She’s a sadistic fascist, but she’s also a multi-layered personality. This is smart writing.

new characters

Yes, that’s the bass player Red Hot Chilli Peppers Flea as the Cosmic Snatcher Vect. But the most fun new character is the trick artist Kumail Nanjiani, who pretends to be a Jedi. At least he proves he has a decent heart, despite all the good he does.

Obi-Wan soon discovers that Haja Estree is using magnets and remote controls to get rid of Jedi sleight of hand, but for a moment I wondered if Haja was in fact a real ex-Jedi. After all, when the little ones are scattered, not all of them will turn into wandering heroes of the oppressed like Nare doomed. It makes sense for some to devise new, shady ways to survive.

When Obi-Wan arrives in the bleak Daewoo District, he is shocked to meet a destitute veteran begging for scraps. I played a worn vet boba fett book It stars Timoira Morrison, who also played Bubba Django Fett’s father in Preques. Jango made a model for the Palpatine army of clone soldiers, and Obi-Wan fought alongside many of these identical soldiers in Clone Wars (shown in the animation). No wonder he looks shocked. There’s also the bitter irony of a soldier forced by a careless regime to commit unspeakable acts, then steps aside (and simply replaced by a new group of unsuspecting trigger men, in the form of Stormtroopers advancing in this scene).

When is the next episode?

Disney dropped the first couple of installments to coincide with the live event Star Wars Celebration, but future episodes air on Wednesdays. This means you only have to wait a few days for Episode 3, which will air on June 1st. Full release schedule for the rest of the series.

  • How can Riva read the thoughts of Hagga Estri and not read Owen’s thoughts?
  • It’s still pointless for 51-year-old and unlooked-for Ewan McGregor to turn into Alec Guinness grizzly in between this show and New Hope. And funny enough, Guinness was 62 when he made A New Hope, and he’s only ten years older than McGregor is now. Then again, to paraphrase Another character associated with George LucasIt’s not the years, it’s the miles.
  • In A New Hope, it’s Uncle Owen who introduces Obi-Wan, trying to put off young Locke: “This wizard is just a crazy old man. Get away from him, you hear me? He’s dangerous.”
  • In 1977, Phil Brown played Uncle Owen, an actor who was blacklisted during the McCarthy era and moved to the United Kingdom. He passed away in 2006. Aunt Beru played Shelag Fraser, an English actor whose career spanned from the 1940s to his final television appearance in 2000. She died the same year.
  • There’s no idea if we’ll ever see an Aquilian Ranger hunting down the Merson Pirates, but it sounds great. Just a small part of the world building details in the show.
